  • Logan Cooley scored twice for the first of Utah's six straight goals, Karel Vejmelka made 25 saves and Mammoth beat the Seattle Kraken 6-2 on Thursday night for their second straight victory. Utah has a five-point lead for the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference. After Cooley erased Seattle's two-goal lead with his 21st and 22nd goals, Nick Schmaltz put Utah ahead on a power play with 5:04 left in the second period.
  • Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic injured his left hamstring on Thursday night and coach JJ Redick said the league's scoring leader will have an MRI on Friday. Redick said Doncic had an issue with the hamstring in the first half of the 139-97 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder and was tended to at the break. “We checked him out, he got work done, he was cleared," Redick said.
  • SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Zack Ostapchuk scored his first goal in nearly three months and the San Jose Sharks beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 on Thursday night for their fourth straight victory.Collin Graf, William Eklund and Adam Gaudette also scored and Alex Nedeljkovic made 18 saves.San Jose, which had the worst record in the NHL last season, is fighting for a wild-card spot in the crowded Western Conference. The Sharks haven’t made the playoffs since 2018-19.Sharks star Macklin Celebrini, who had nine points in his previous three games, was scoreless on three shots.John Tavares scored a power-play goal […]
  • San Francisco rookie catcher Daniel Susac went 3 for 3 with a walk in his first major league start and the Giants rolled over the New York Mets 7-2 on Thursday night. The younger brother of former Giants catcher Andrew Susac singled in his first two big league at-bats off David Peterson (0-1), then drew a walk and singled off Sean Manaea.
  • Max Strus’s 24-point performance helped the Cavs end their road trip with a victory.
  • Jrue Holiday had 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, and the Trail Blazers downed the New Orleans Pelicans 118-106 on Thursday night with Portland's new owners looking on. Deni Avdija added 26 points for the Blazers, who have won three straight and eight of their last 10 games. Toumani Camara finished with 23 points.
  • Matt Olson, Dominic Smith and Mauricio Dubón hit solo homers, Reynaldo López gave up one run over five innings and the Atlanta Braves coasted to a 17-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. The Braves broke it open with an eight-run fifth, sending 12 batters to plate to take a 10-1 lead. Austin Riley and Michael Harris II had two-run doubles and Ozzie Albies brought home two more with a single.
  • Donovan Mitchell had 25 points and six rebounds, Max Strus' 3-pointer with 54 seconds left helped seal it as he scored 24, and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors 118-111 on Thursday night. James Harden contributed 19 points and five assists as the Cavs won for the seventh time in nine games during a stretch playing five times in eight nights. Gui Santos and Brandin Podziemski scored 25 points apiece for the Warriors, who were missing Stephen Curry for the 27th straight game but his return could come as soon as Sunday.
  • Connor McDavid set up Matt Savoie's power-play goal to pad his NHL-leading points total and help the Edmonton Oilers win their season-high fifth straight game, 3-1 over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. Chicago lost its fifth straight to drop out of playoff contention, extending its postseason drought to six seasons.
  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 28 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Los Angeles Lakers 139-96 on Thursday night. Only six times in their storied history have the Lakers been defeated by more points. Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning league MVP, got the best of his matchup with Los Angeles' Luka Doncic — the league's scoring leader and one of Gilgeous-Alexander's top competitors for this season's award.
